> Kara Swisher Talks to Tim Cook about App Tracking Transparency, Privacy, and Security

Great conversation on the App Store and Security.

Apple’s stance on privacy is that it’s a basic human right and I couldn’t agree more. We have the right to privacy in our laws so why shouldn’t they be applied in our technology as well? Privacy is ingrained in Apple’s culture.

Steve Jobs in 2010:

Privacy means people know what they’re signing up for, in plain English and repeatedly I believe people are smart and some people want to share more data than other people do. Ask them. Ask them every time. Make them tell you to stop asking them if they get tired of your asking them. Let them know precisely what you’re going to do with their data,

App Tracking Transparency is clear and straightforward. It lets the user know they’re being tracked not just in an app, which in 2021 is always assumed, but when you leave the app as well. Asking my permission for something like that is simply the right thing to do. I mean imagine if someone from Macy’s literally followed you into a different clothing store. How creepy is that?

Facebook using small business as a human shield is pretty despicable. I’d be curious to see what the numbers in terms of revenue are now and what that are after ATT starts as I’m pretty sure the only ones really getting hurt here are Facebook.
